oh dear.. well i went through these steps: a warm bath with lots and lots of bubbles! then muscle rub followed by lying down on my sofa with a pillow behind my back and eating a nice bar of chocolate. its safe to take 1 paracetamol if the pain gets too bad but thats what i did.. just wait for the leg cramps and backache!!!

Believe it or not, my doctor suggested going down on all fours like a dog. This takes the weight downwards so the pressure is off the spine. His actual suggestion was to wash the kitchen floor! Swimming is also good as the water takes the weight of the baby and you are not using anything that might harm your baby. Good luck and wishing you a happy healthy baby

I found that placing a rolled up towel under my buttocks whilst laying on my back helped to stretch out the spine, which relieved my back ache, however, it may be that the baby is resting on your spine causing the pain. You really need to see the doctor or midwife who can assess the situation.

I had back pain in my first pregnancy starting in about my 13th week until I saw a chiropractor. The adjustments relieved all of my back pain until about my 32nd week when things started loosening up for the delivery a week later. The sacral joint pain that started in that last week of my first pregnancy still acts up now and then (almost 7 years later).

Massage would certainly help, I've heard that pregnancy massage is very healthy and helps all kinds of stuff like that.

You should probably talk to your doctor about any kind of topical painkillers or herbal treatments as well as the vibrating massager.

It's always best during pregnancy to sleep on your side, especially in the later months.

I would not use any medicated rubs.. these do absorb into your system and may affect the baby. Try a warm heating pad and gentle message.

Be sure you are not sleeping on your back.. sleep on your left side when possible, with a pillow between your knees. Make sure you are using good posture when standing, sitting and walking. Don't let your back arch... stand/sit tall and tuck your **** under to keep your spine straighter.

Also keep in mind that other medical conditions may cause back pain (i.e. kidney stones). If you were not overweight before becoming pregnant, thirteen weeks is a bit early to be experiencing such bad back pains. You might want to make a quick appointment with your regular doctor.
