I find a wrist rest infront of the keyboard really helps.
I have a friend that was advised to exercise the problem muscle/joint and train it to be stronger
Sit high, on telephone directories if seat too low, or ask your company for another.. Droop your hands, so your fingers are perched over the keys. Using your hands/fingers on a level will aggravate the muscles and tendons.
Tynosynovits (spelling here) – or carpal tunnel sundrome – is caused by a ligament, rubbing against the bone, as the tendon is moving through the small hole in the bone. To type with your wrists lower than your fingers, causes friction. Many famous professional pianists suffered this. I have another problem with my right hand. Buy (Aldi Liddel cheapest) a bottle of Virgin Olive oil. Buy a small bottle of Sesame Oil You can use for cooking also. Each night massage the mixed oils, over your fingers, hand, wrist, etc., dab off excess. Bandage loosely, because skin swells in the night and you don’t want the bandage to tighten. Olive Oil has vitamin A D which are good for the bones and skin. Sesame oil has vitamin B’s which are good for nerve endings. The skin can absorb vitamins from oil. I find that olive oil will take away pain other people have verified this. The oils will help heal. It really does help, alleviate and cure.
Because you are getting pain elsehwere, you are probably holding your body muscles taught expecting pain. It is a vicious circle. To me, it sounds as though you have two separte problems. Also – at night, ensure your head and neck on comfortable and not causing any strain whilst you are sleeping.
Another possibility – is that because of your posture …. you may now have a trapped nerve in your neck. If you can find someone who knows of a good Chiropracter this could help you. I understand that after the treatment, for about 3 days after you feel sore and stiff. I’m going to a recommended one next week because of similar problems. The Olive Oil does help me.
Years ago, I hurt my neck and was even waking in the night, so I could turn over gently. My GP told me, I was actually holding my neck stiff all the time and this was aggravating the muscles and had created the probelms. He was a good doctor, I believed in his diagnosis. It worked!
