you can’t force someone its called america and we still have free will to screw our lives up if we want to. i’m sure your intentions are good, but leave the man alone unless hes out drivin around then call the cops on his drunk ass.
Unfortunately, you cannot force a person to geo to rehab unless it’s court ordered. To get a court order, he would have to be a threat to society or commit some kind of crime while under the influence of alcohol. I have wished so many times that we could force people into rehab just because we loved them… but legally, we can’t. Hopefully this person will come to realize how badly they are treating their body and how much suffering he is causing to those around him. Try to hang in there.
Laws may be different in different states, but here, the only way someone can be forced to go to rehab is if they commit a crime or are acting in a dangerous manner. In other words, in any situation in which you’d normally call the cops. Or, as the person above said, if they’re behind the wheel of a car while drunk.
theres a thing called freedom but if your no talking about dragging him away kicking . you and family can do a intervention have your whole fam be there and tell him every reason you wnt him to go and you love him. also tell him what will change if he doesnt go ie: no more money. no more visits, no more place to live or buying him drinks or whatever but make sure you can stick w them no mtter what. you can also have a police officer stand by if he leaves the location(not his home) like drives or walking and he had been drinkingthen there you go dwi/or intoxticated in public. then a judge gets invloved and you can request it. or if has threatned to hurt himself call 911 and report him they will/ may keep him for 72 hrs to do a review on him and if they discover his issues they can hold him to make him to doit. theres several ways… let me know i you have any other questions my father was bad w the drink…..
